WORK EXPERIENCE

4 YEARS INDUSTRIAL DESIGN EXPERIENCE

ClaySimonson LLC (Founder and Principal Designer)

Duration: 1 year of full time work. I created ClaySimonson LLC to change the way large companies design. We work strictly for product royalties, which ties our success directly to the success of our clients. We earned $2.5 million in royalties, and made our clients a large, confidential amount in sales. I hired designers from Astin Martin, Google, Nike, and Rivian. I pay each designer a cut of sales. I created a company with designers form the worlds’ best companies and motivated them to create their best work for my clients. Our small team created the best work our clients have ever seen. Each of our clients have asked us to make them more work as soon as we can.

SIMPLEHUMAN (Global Cross Department Design Oversight Team)

Duration: Twelve months of full time work. Duties included working with simplehuman’s company owner Frank Yang, senior creative director and co-founder of Smart Design Paul Hamburger, and senior art director Mikako Ito. I was tasked with rethinking company departments as if I were rethinking a product. Deliverables included a fully functional e-commerce app prototype, fully functional website prototype, marketing restructure and more.

SIMPLEHUMAN (Global Industrial Design Team)

Duration: Eighteen months of full time work. Duties included a dual responsibility schedule. The first responsibility was working in a four person team to establish, grow, and articulate simplehuman's global mission. Our team of four designers regulated and oversaw design from sixteen other designers. We managed all designs to ensure each concept spoke to the simplehuman brand and long term mission. The second responsibility was to create and lead my own design projects starting at problem identification and sketch ideation, progressing to CAD iteration, and creating documentation to pass to our product development team. At any given time, I oversaw up to four projects from other designers and created up to two of my own.

FOUNDATIONAL EMPLOYMENT (Contract and Internship - 25 Months Total)

WHIRLPOOL CORPORATION (Advanced Team)

Duration: Three months of full time work. Duties included working with a team to create the design vision three to ten years in the future for a fortune 200 company. I worked with a team of five industrial designers and a small CMF team to guide the future brand identity across all of Whirlpool’s brands including Kitchen Aid, Maytag, Whirlpool, Jenn Air, and many more. Our team specialized in the why behind each brand’s future. I helped create renderings and designs that were immediately shown and pitched to Whirlpool’s board of directors (which includes the CEO’s of Whirlpool, Black & Decker, John Deere, Yum! Brands,...).

I pitched my concepts directly to all of the brand and department design directors. I collaborated on projects for industries including I.O.T., cooking, refrigeration, tools / tool storage, and I dove deep into the laundry industry.

BOSCHWERKS CONSULTING

Duration: four months of contractual work. Duties included working as an industrial designer to create a variety of products for three main clients. I worked for a former Major League Baseball player to develop a professional sporting goods product to be sold to two of the MLB's biggest brands. I worked for Montezuma Tools specifically tasked to innovate what the future of tool storage could mean in an IOT connected world, as well as in analogue innovation. I worked for Fuzion Scooters to develop photo-realistic renderings to be put on Amazon to sell a new professional line of scooters.

GREAT NORTHERN CORPORATION

Duration: eight months of full time work. Duties included working as an Industrial Design team member to solve problems with product and product display oriented solutions. Responsibilities included rapid ideation (sketching and Solidworks modeling), designing within brand languages (3M, Fastenal, Office Depot, Ring, Meijer,...), creating new brand languages, and travel for vendor quality control.

ZALK JOSEPH'S FABRICATORS (X2)

Duration (each): four months of full time work. Two internships completed. Duties included working in a team of three to determine estimate cost of structural steel of large-scale buildings predominately in Chicago. Later responsibilities included working as an individual estimator.

TRANSPORTATION DESIGN PROP RIDER'S RACING (Freelance)

Prop Rider's Racing is on of the two largest brands in Pro Outboard Unlimited Boat Racing. Todd Brinkman, the owner of Prop Rider's Racing and Chair of US Title Series Racing Division, asked me to ideate a fresh VBL for Prop Rider's Racing.

INTERIOR DESIGN FRANCESCA SIGNORI (Freelance)

Duties included working as a member of a four person team with designers from Italy, New York, and RISD to design, create, and install the interior decorations of The Eataly grocery store and restaurant in downtown Chicago. We worked seasonally accross 2017 to make the visceral shopping experience at the Eataly bring in more sales.
